Serve

Welcome Teams
Sunday morning at Providence Church is a time of joy in meeting with our brothers and sisters in Christ. The Welcome Team sets the tone of warm fellowship and Christ’s love from the moment someone walks in the door.

Greeter (commitment: one month of Sundays, three times a year)
Offer a friendly hello and a warm handshake to welcome people as they enter the building. Help visitors find classrooms, restrooms, and the Worship Center before the service begins. Greeters are at the front and back doors twenty minutes before each service starts.

Usher (commitment: one month of Sundays, three times a year)
Ushers facilitate the worship service by helping people find seats, monitoring noisy doorways, and collecting the offering. Ushers serve during one of the Sunday morning services, leaving the other free for them to attend a FOCUS Workshop.

Bulletin Distributor (commitment: one month of Sundays three times a year)
As people enter the worship service on Sunday morning, they receive a bulletin and a friendly smile from a Welcome Team volunteer.

Information Center (commitment: one month of Sundays three times a year)
The Information Center in the church Foyer is the “go to” place for information about what is going on in the life of the church.  The Information Center team helps explain events and answer questions about the ministries of Providence Church. Volunteers are available before the first service, between services, and for 20 minutes after the second service.

Mercy Ministries

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:
to look after orphans and widows in their distress...”

-James 1:27

At Providence Church we desire to be a community of believers who work together for the good of the body and who care for members of our family during times of need. As Christians, we are called to look after orphans and widows and to extend our hands when we see a need. The Mercy Ministries are all about helping those who, because of their circumstances, are unable to complete the daily tasks of living on their own.

Transportation Team (commitment: varies)
Team members will provide rides to church, to medical appointments, to the grocery store, or other various places. Team members should be good listeners and must have a current driver’s license and auto insurance.

Lawn Care (commitment: varies, April through October)
If you enjoy being outside, gardening, and mowing the lawn, you could serve through this special ministry to those in need.  Owning a lawn mower is not required.

Housecleaning (commitment: varies)
There are times in life when household duties must be put on the back burner to focus on other, more important, things. Willing service in any capacity is needed.

Meals Team (commitment: varies)
Members of the Meals Team occasionally provide a simple meal to those in need in our church family. Meals are organized for those in need due to sickness, death or trauma in the family, and for families when a new baby is born.

Babysitting (commitment: varies)
Times come up when a mother or father must be in two places at once. This burden can be eliminated by volunteers who are willing to watch young children so the parents can tend to other responsibilities. This is not a babysitting service, but a ministry to those in need.

Web Content Manager (commitment: one-two hours per week)
The Providence web site is the place to find up-to-the-minute event details, complete ministry information, staff e-mail addresses, the church calendar, and more. Because things are constantly changing, the web site needs to be updated often. If you have good technological aptitude and an eye for detail, we’ll train you in the use of our content management system and supply you with the information that needs to be posted.

Library

Materials Manager (commitment: one half hour per week)
Each week the library materials manager enters the checked-out and checked-in books into the computer database. This position also includes re-shelving returned books and keeping the library tidy. The process is simple to learn and the position can be filled by an adult or teen.

Donations Processor (commitment: as needed, two hours a month)
The library purchases items and receives many donations which need to be added to the computer database. There are several steps involved in adding a new item to our collection and the Library Coordinator will provide a simple training.

Material Purchasing (commitment: flexible)
Providence Church sets aside funds for purchasing new library materials. A special team evaluates suggestions from the congregation and makes decisions about what books and other resources the library will purchase.

If you would like to be a part of a Prayer Tripod, gather two other people, grab the Prayer Tripod guide, and set up a time to pray. If you need help finding others to pray with - just let us know.

Women’s Prayer (commitment: Fridays, 10:30 – 11:30 am)
Every Friday morning, women meet to cover the church in prayer, as well as to pray for personal needs. Women are invited to pray with this group as their schedules permit. A commitment to pray every week is not necessary.

Prayer Chain (commitment: varies)
When something serious happens in the life of one of the members of Providence Church, the prayer chain mobilizes many of our members so that they may begin praying for the need immediately. This is not a commitment to a ministry, but rather a commitment to keep the church and its members in fervent prayer during specific times of need. Your name may be added to the prayer chain at any time.

Support Staff (commitment: Wednesday evenings)
The Support Staff team spends time with students on Wednesday evenings and meets to pray for students as they are in their small groups.

Discussion Group Leaders (commitment: Thursday evenings for 13 weeks, either in fall or spring)
Those that have been through a divorce, who are on the other side, and who may have a passion for  ministering to others are needed as leaders of DivorceCare discussion groups.  For the first 30 minutes of each session the group watches a video featuring an expert on different aspects of divorce recovery.  Afterward, leaders lead a discussion about the evening’s topic.

DC4K Leader (commitment: Thursday evenings for 13 weeks, either in fall or spring)

Leadership and teaching positions at Providence Church come with a large responsibility. Providence members who feel they have the gift of teaching or who have a passion for leading a specific ministry are encouraged to stretch themselves by pursuing a leadership position.

FLOCKS Group Leader (commitment: lead a FLOCKS Group; care for members in the group)
FLOCKS leaders are individuals or couples in the church who desire to lead a Christian fellowship in their area. There is no set time commitment on FLOCKS leaders - they simply desire to love, lead, shepherd, and serve those in their groups.

  • Bradley Bay Service Facilitator
These compassionate volunteers pray with the group before the service, coordinate the service, and visit and pray with the residents after the service.
  • Song Leader
Everyone sings hymns together, but worship runs more smoothly with a musician who can play piano or guitar and lead in singing.
  • Speaker
Special speakers are always needed to deliver the message during the service. If you have the gift of teaching, the folks of Bradley Bay would be encouraged by your message.
  • Encourager
Bradley Bay residents love to have people pray, socialize, and spend time with them. Attend the worship service and stay for fellowship.

Small Group Leader (commitment: Wednesday evenings, various events)
Small group leaders become natural mentors of the students in OASIS and QUEST. Each Wednesday night, these leaders facilitate a small group discussion to help students connect the truth of God’s Word to their school life, homework, relationships, and homes. In addition to Wednesday nights, small group leaders need to be willing to pursue relationships with their students at group events or one-on-one.

Youth events can literally “go nowhere” without adult transportation. Available drivers transport students to and from off-campus events or service projects. If you have a vehicle that you are willing to drive or let someone else drive please let us know.

Major Event Coordinator (commitment: event by event basis)
The Youth Ministry organizes several creative events each year to engage middle and high school students. Event Coordinators should have an eye for detail and a “big picture” mentality.

Worship Arts

Sunday morning worship at Providence Church has two purposes: adoration and encouragement. The primary purpose is to give God the unhindered attention and adoration of His people as we pray, praise, and hear His Word proclaimed. By understanding more fully who God is and our relationship to Him as His people, we are strengthened and encouraged to live worthy of His Name.

Opportunities to Serve on the Platform

As part of the worship team, vocalists lead the congregation in singing. Practices are on Thursday evenings and before the service on Sundays. An audition is required prior to participation.

The choir sings during the worship service about once a month. The ability to read music is not required.
